WCARA Field Day 2018 – June 23th & 24th – THMS, Belfast, ME
Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.
On June 23th and 24th, the Waldo County Amateur Radio Association will be participating in the 2018 Field Day event. WCARA will set up a temporary communication station at the Troy Howard Middle School, located on RT. 52 in Belfast, Maine. This event is open to the public and is designed to expand the knowledge of amateur (ham) radio and its ability to quickly deploy a transmitting station and provide emergency communication in the event of a disaster. Club members holding a valid amateur radio license will be operating on a variety frequencies and modes, making contacts with other amateur radio operators around the world. A GOTA (Get On The Air) station will also be assembled, allowing the general public a chance to experience the excitement of communicating with amateur radio to another station located hundred or thousands of miles away.
