WCARA Field Day 2024 – June 22 & 23 – THMS, Belfast, ME

Field Day is ham radio’s open house.

Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

On June 22nd and 23rd, the Waldo County Amateur Radio Association will be participating in the 2024 Field Day event. WCARA will set up a temporary communication station at the Troy Howard Middle School, located on RT. 52 in Belfast, Maine. This event is open to the public and is designed to expand the knowledge of amateur (ham) radio and its ability to quickly deploy a transmitting station and provide emergency communication in the event of a disaster. Club members holding a valid amateur radio license will be operating on a variety frequencies and modes, making contacts with other amateur radio operators around the world.

Setup up begins at approximately 9am on Saturday. The public is welcome to help or observe the procedure of setting up antennas and radios for emergency communication. Radio operation will begin at 2pm and continue for 24 hours, until 2pm on Sunday. All are welcome to try their hand at making contacts.

If you have any interest in radio communications, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Talk-in frequency is 147.27 with PL136.5
